in Britain ’s struggle towards multicultural democracy. Over three nights in July of 1981, the civil authorities lost control of the city, the result of years of mistrust, mismanagement and deprivation. The result of the riots were millions of pounds of damage,
hundreds of casualties and the near collapse of a government.
