All That Is Solid is concerned with transience and the impossibility of capturing the unrecorded voice and the undocumented past. John Akomfrah collaborated with Trevor Mathison to reconfigure the traditional relationship between image and sound to create a more cohesive ‘dialogue-driven’ relationship between the two.

Long-time collaborators Akomfrah and Mathison were both founding members of the Black Audio Film Collective (BAFC).
